Season 3 Episode 6 A Malcolm – Post Episode Wrap Up
A Malcolm was just not the episode I was expecting. There was waaaaaay too much going on! Seriously. The characters haven’t seen each other in 20 years. The audience has been waiting for this reunion since the end of season 2. WHY ON EARTH ARE YOU CONTINUING WITH PLOT AT THIS POINT?!?!?
Ok breathe. The scenes where Jamie and Claire were alone together were exactly what I wanted. They were slow, poignant, timid, awkward, and so full of unspoken love I teared up with happiness for them. But I wanted a whole episode of that. I didn’t need the Fergus reunion yet. Ian Murray could’ve easily waited until the next episode. The whole morning after/brothel girls scene, while hilarious, was totally unnecessary. And the attack on Claire!? Why, why, why would you do that? Can’t we just get one freaking episode to let our characters find happiness in their reunion?! Do we really have to put them in peril immediately?
And WTF was with that behind the scenes bit at the end? We got five minutes of the crew telling us they wanted to make the scenes intimate – duh, we know…we just watched it. And did they seriously try to explain the fact that they aren’t aging either of the actors, but it’s ok because Jamie now has to wear glasses and Claire was momentarily insecure when she was naked in front of him? That’s how they justify the passage of 20 years with nary an extra wrinkle on the characters?
In next week’s episode – who the fuck knows! Bah!
